The Fulton Group, LLC

In 2006, father and son team, Jim and Xan Smith, founded The Fulton Group, LLC, a real estate development and sales firm. Based in Pinehurst and Wilmington, NC, The Fulton Group is focused on strategic land and neighborhood development opportunities throughout the Southeast. The team’s primary mission is to create communities with a distinct sense of place through innovative and sensitive planning and design.


F. Alexander (Xan) Smith

Prior to forming The Fulton Group, Mr. Smith served on the development team for Palmetto Bluff, a 20,000-acre island community/resort development located on the May River in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. Particular areas of focus at Palmetto Bluff include project management responsibilities for both the mixed-use Village and custom builder programs, golf course design and development and financial analysis. Mr. Smith joined Crescent Resources, LLC within the Second Home/Resort Development Division of Crescent Residential in February 2001.

Prior to this, Mr. Smith spent four years as an Associate with First Union Capital Markets, the investment banking subsidiary of First Union National Bank (now Wachovia Securities). Mr. Smith joined First Union Capital Markets in June 1997 after earning his M.B.A. from the Babcock Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University.

Before entering business school, Mr. Smith spent three years with Unifi, Inc., a global textile manufacturer. After spending an academic year abroad at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland in 1989 where he also was a member of the University’s golf team, Mr. Smith graduated Cum Laude from Wake Forest University in 1992.

Mr. Smith is a native of Wilmington, NC and also has had the privilege of living in such places as St. Andrews, Scotland, Beaufort, SC and Alexandria, VA. Xan and his wife, Gena are the proud parents of twins, Fulton and Augusta, and now look forward to returning to Pinehurst and the Sandhills to raise a family and practice creative development in an already special place.
